Why I like Facebook

FacebookI thought that I might as well start a post about why I like Facebook and then at a later stage write a post about the things that I dislike about Facebook for another post.
So what do I like Facebook? Firstly I like the fact that it is first and foremost a social networking system where I can keep up with my friends. My friends like to write small status updates or add contents which appear in my mini-feed which I can then browse at my leisure.

The interface is pretty interesting. I like the way that I can select a photo from another persons profile and share it which then will appear in my feed. Or if I comment in a photo it appears in my mini-feed. It’s interesting concept.

For example, I knew that my friend Matt Walsham was planning to come to New Zealand long before he sent a mass email but because he sent a small note on Facebook that he was thinking to come for a visit. So keeping friends up to date is one cool thing with Facebook.

Another is the applications that are available for Facebook. There are literally tons. They range from Facebook own default applications to third party web services such as Twitter /Kyte.TV/Flickr/Wordpress.Everytime I update either one of these service, it jumps into my Facebook. It’s brilliant. So it is the integration of applications that I like.

So all in all, there are three main things that I like about Facebook (not in any order):

  • Integration
  • Keeping in Contact with friends
  • Interface
