This time it is on my thoughts on mobile application developers. I have written posts about this before and discussed briefly as to the developer who creates cross-platform applications can stand to make a lot of money. Why? Simply because they have such a large market share.

Take a look at all the major mobile applications out there. WhatsApp, Evernote, Twitter clients, Facebook. Notice how they have each application working on the various mobile platforms, ranging from iOS, Android, blackberry and even Nokia. If you have one application that can work on so many platforms then you can reach a lot more people and if integrated smartly then there would be a lot more attraction for people to use it.

Well, I have decided to start blogging again. I have not blogged in a while but for every
single new year there is always a new years resolution.

I have a few, but after having watched a few YouTube videos and journalling services, I thought why not?

It is not that I have not blogged before. I have blogged before, ever since 2003 but they were very un-meaningful posts.

I guess that I want to have a sense of purpose with the blog. Yes, I do want to have the random posts just like most other bloggers have mentioned and working off the cuff, but I feel that sometimes there is a theme to every blog.

Anyway, this is something just a start off with.

I hopefully will start blogging again on a more weekly basis. You guys can hold me to that!

A while ago now it has always been the case with me that everytime something came up that I would put it to one side and always say that “Yes I will do it someday” and then there would be a frantic rush as to get things done and stress starts to build in order to get these things done. That is until I have followed the process of Getting Things Done or simply known as GTD. To me GTD is simply a system that works on the premise that when we depend on our minds to get things done (which most of us do) then we fall into turmoil in terms of completing tasks. Likewise if we depend on a system that is flawed, then the mind starts to depend on itself and that does not help at all.

And this is where GTD fits in. David Allen the creator of the gtd system created this system to help well get things done.

GTD is a system that allows you to record and process your tasks and organize everything so that you can ease the mind so that it does not have to remember it.

This is in turn allows you to focus on getting the job done instead of remembering what to do next.

I have been using GTD for a long while now. Sometimes I do find that I deviate from using GTD but when I get back into the groove of things, I find that I become more productive as I am focusing on the things that make an impact to what is going on.

How surprised I was to see them show Holmes deductive reasoning at work. It was a modern interpretation but it at least stayed true to form.

I just finished watching the movie “Avatar”. It was visually appealing but I felt that it was rehashed storylines of past movies. I mean look at the “Last Samurai” where you have a foreigner entering enemy territory and then switching sides to fight against their own. Or look at Matrix. It was something similar.

So in essence the technology maybe different but the storyline has not wavered. Tomorrow, new years eve is my birthday. I am turning 32. Let’s see what it brings. Will post later.

That Wedding entrance video has been a hit everywhere. Unless you are stuck under a rock and have not seen it yet, check it out on youtube. Just look for “YouTube – JK Wedding Entrance Dance” To date it has reached 19,389,431 views, and continues to grow. I find it amusing to see that the use of the song “Forever” was used and the Recording Studio never batted an eyelid despite the number of views that it got. And you know why? They were making money thats why. Yes, according to this Boingboing article, the recording studio CTR (Click to Buy) sky rocket increase not long after the release of this video.

I liked Cory’s comment:

So many of the record industry giants are publicly traded companies. Why aren’t their shareholders howling for more stuff like this — which actually makes money — and less pointless Grand Guignols to extract a couple grand from some hapless teen, alienating a future customer and her family and friends for life?

Thats my thoughts exactly Corey. Before I finish this post I’ll leave you with this parody of the Wedding Entrance: (Thanks to Anish who showed me this, I had to chuckle)

EDIT: I had the wrong title up there before. REAMENDED now.

Interesting thing happened yesterday. Yes my Gmail account got broken into. It was not a nice experience having the mail acccount that you depend upon violated and spammed from. And then embarrasingly having to write to everyone in your contact list to say “Sorry”.

Anyway I digress. . .I found out about the account being compromised when my site lead sent me an email to ask “Did you send this?” and then when I tried to log into my Gmail account it came up with the error “This is not the right password, Access is denied” Several more attempts and it confirmed my suspicions.

Google is quite good in that it has a recovery process to deal with compromised accounts. I won’t go with the semantics but suffice to say that straight after I found out about my account being compromised I changed my passwords on everything that is important to me. Gmail, my online banking, just to name a few. Who knows what those people would have gone through?

These are some of things that I did. What about you?

I was talking to a friend of mine at dinner last night and we were discussing whether buying for somebody (and reciprocating) was in the same league as just turning up and paying for ourselves and enjoying each others company. My friend’s premise was that the simple act of turning up to the event is good enough and is the same as buying for somebody.

This post is not focusing about the above discussion and the merits of it, but after our dinner appointment, it got me thinking why we have differently. Some of you may fire back to me and say it is glaringly obvious, but I believe that why we think differently is largely because we have different values. The Meriam Webster online dictionary defines values as “something (as a principle or quality) intrinsically valuable or desirable <sought material values instead of human values — W. H. Jones>”

It is of what we experience in our lives and what has been past down to us from our parents and those that are very close to us that distinctly defines what we consider with certain values in our lives. Do remember that there is the odd exception. . .I mean a person in a derelict family may see a different outlook to that of people around them.
