That Wedding entrance video has been a hit everywhere. Unless you are stuck under a rock and have not seen it yet, check it out on youtube. Just look for “YouTube – JK Wedding Entrance Dance” To date it has reached 19,389,431 views, and continues to grow. I find it amusing to see that the use of the song “Forever” was used and the Recording Studio never batted an eyelid despite the number of views that it got. And you know why? They were making money thats why. Yes, according to this Boingboing article, the recording studio CTR (Click to Buy) sky rocket increase not long after the release of this video.

Why aren’t their shareholders howling for more stuff like this — which actually makes money — and less pointless Grand Guignols to extract a couple grand from some hapless teen, alienating a future customer and her family and friends for life?

Interesting thing happened yesterday. Yes my Gmail account got broken into. It was not a nice experience having the mail acccount that you depend upon violated and spammed from. And then embarrasingly having to write to everyone in your contact list to say “Sorry”.
Anyway I digress. . .I found out about the account being compromised when my site lead sent me an email to ask “Did you send this?” and then when I tried to log into my Gmail account it came up with the error “This is not the right password, Access is denied” Several more attempts and it confirmed my suspicions.
Google is quite good in that it has a recovery process to deal with compromised accounts. I won’t go with the semantics but suffice to say that straight after I found out about my account being compromised I changed my passwords on everything that is important to me. Gmail, my online banking, just to name a few. Who knows what those people would have gone through?

What is Section 92a? There has been so much controversy over this in New Zealand and even some people around the world like Steven Fry have protested about this in their own way. The initial Section 92a stated that once accused of downloading infringing copyright material the ISP is then responsible for terminating the users account without any question whatsoever.
This law essentially means that there does not need to have justice system in place. The traditional “Innocent until proven Guilty” is not even in effect here, just three strikes and you’re ‘out’. No Internet. Nothing. Zip. Nada. They might as well as cut off our right arm.
Whoever wrote and then approved that law has got to be nuts. Firstly they have forgotten entirely about the justice system. Where do these people get a fair trial? Where is the justice in all of this? Also, cutting off Internet access altogether? There are punishments that are meant to deter people but there are others that are too totalitarian and extreme. The use of the Internet has made its way into our daily lives. From Internet banking, to getting information, it makes things more convenient its slowly becoming the only way to get things done. A simple question, what happens when a business never even conducted any such activity in any way yet they were accused by a disgruntled employee/s? Remember three strikes and its good bye to the Internet? Second, they are cutting off a lifeblood for ISPs. Their main revenue is people using Internet. Cut that off..uh huh.
This law was meant to have passed by 28th Feb but because of the calamity of the issue and the attention that it got, the government has now said that the law will be modified based on the government and the ISPs agreeing with the terms. They have till 20th of March 2009 (or some date) before they come to an agreement. If after six months they still have nothing, then the law will slide and be suspended.
My bet at this stage is that the law will be suspended. No one (on both sides) in their right mind would want to have their accounts terminated.
I have been really been getting into web applications, for a lot of the things that I do. In the past I use to do things using Microsoft Office and such and while I still use them, I am finding that a lot of my applications are living in the ‘cloud’ so to speak and integrating with these client side applications. There are three main things that I am doing, which is twitter, Gmail, Flickr, blogging in WordPress, Plaxo and FaceBook for contact management.
Plaxo is an invaluable tool for finding my appointments and syncing with all the email/contact management from Gmail and Outlook. Because I use a Pocket PC and Outlook 2007 I find that this is very useful for backup and synchronizing between accounts with Google Calendar/Outlook and Gmail contacts. If my Pocket PC gets stolen, I can still rely on my 3G cellphone to get to my calendar data or contact data.
I have found that I have been using twitter a lot. I never realised that I would start using it. What is twitter? For me, its a tool that allows people to keep people updated with their statuses. Short on text I have found several services that allows me to add video to twitter…or rather it links to the video from another site. Its brilliant. My twitter status can be seen on the right hand side of the page.
Another is Flickr. Flickr is a web tool I use to keep all my photos. It lives on the internet and it is a wonderful system to help organise and share photos. I highly recommend it to anyone. I can upload my pictures from anything. Digital cameras obviously, web cameras and also from mobile phones.
Lastly is Facebook. I have just started using this. This is a social networking site and it integrates most of what I previously mentioned together. It allows me to keep in touch with others, and follow what they are doing.
I honestly believe these have become a big part of my life, especially twitter. I tend to blog for long posts and to show the odd video here and there. Do you use any of these web applications? What web applications do you use and what has your experience been with them?
